How To: Sync Taskpaper and iPhone Notes over wifi (Formatted version) 20

IMPORTANT!: These instructions are for the version which formats the iPhone notes (Headings underlined, projects in blocks for clarity, @done tasks line-through, tags in blue, notes in grey). For the plain version, please visit these instructions.

- a Hacked iPhone or hacked iPod Touch with Notes installed
- Installer.app installed on the hacked iPhone
- Mac OS X 10.5+
- Python 2.5+

I love Taskpaper, and I love the iPhone Notes app (yeh weirdo, I know!) and together they make for an excellent and simple GTD solution. This tutorial will guide you through the processes needed to set up semi-automatic syncing bewteen the two - at the end of it you will have two applications (synctoiphone and syncfromiphone) which you can put in your dock, on the desktop, run from quicksilver or launchbar, whatever suits your needs most.

This works out of the box so to speak on Leopard, Tiger users may need to install a newer version of python - see footnote [1]. Usual disclaimers, you do this at your own risk etc as you will be directly writing to your iphone notes databse. It is prudent to make a backup copy should things go wrong.

Apple Store Glasgow 1

Went to the grand opening of the new Apple Store in Glasgow today, Scotland’s first. Wasn’t disappointed, managed to swag a free T-Shirt, but honestly was expecting a few more to be queuing than actually were - I got there about an hour before opening and was 210th in line, by 9.00 probably about 400-500 in total.

Interior of the store is very well done, a mixture of gorgeous Apple design and original stone wall features. Picked up a copy of iLife ‘08, popped across the road to Starbucks and sat there watching everyone else piling in throughout the morning whilst trying the new software. Noticed that Apple’s free wifi reaches across to Starbucks, hmm one wonders how much Starbucks are going to make out of the pay for tmobile wifi??

Photo from Paul Robertson’s photostream - forgot my camera so just grabbed the first I could find from Flickr.

Minimap - 1 Month on 4

I released the Minimap Sidebar addon for Firefox just over a month ago, and so far am pleased with how it has gone. In this time I have had ~10000 downloads, and with the latest release I put on firefox.spatialviews.com today (0.1.4.7) some significant improvements to boot.

Enhancements include three modes; addresses, directions and kml, I have dramatically improved the Map Tab, and also tweaked the handling of kml links so that should behave a lot better.

Lets hope August continues in the same vain!
